Souhegan could get to 9 wins next year. The schools around them aren't as good (Hollis will be bad) Milford about the same and Monad bad, Bedford better but not great

This "moron" did not say to stop playing or working hard. This moron already knows the statistics into getting into college on a basketball scholarship. Maybe less than 10% if they are lucky which means you have to work extremely hard and be extremely talented and extremely dedicated. You are a moron if you think Amherst and Milford kids are the best in the state!!! I have seen Milford 4 times this year. I haven't seen them win yet... As for Amherst and Gilligan - Gilligan is good in his division and the Amherst kids play hard (so do the Milford kids) but do I see a Kobe or even a Bonner in the midst - noooooooooooo! So who is the moron?? Let the kids play and enjoy themselves. These kids are freshman - who knows where they will be as seniors??? Why are there any rankings anyway? Who are they for??

Bottom line - this website allows adults/kids put down other kids or teams. After watching AAU Basketball - I have seen coaches demoralize their players, parents go after referees during and after games, and players talk trash & hurt other player (intentional & unintentional). All for what?? The previous woman was right? What purpose does this website serve? The kids don't need to read about themselves like this and we only see a small part of the kid playing basketball. There is more to life than basketball........

I think it is great that the Milford and Amherst kids are working hard on their game. If they even want the chance to think of a future opportunity they need to be working now. However they are not alone. The Rivals kids are workingout at the RAC every night and the Wednesday night training there is wild where they play against some of the best elite older kids in the area. Its competitive out there and there is nothing wrong with having a dream and working for it.

Yeah i agree its great these kids are working really hard but with basketball it is extremely difficult to get a scholarship for any college. Theres only around 12 guys on a team and not all of them play. Also these kids are from NH. That lessens there chances even more. Its not like football or baseball where many more players are needed on a team which creates more oppurtunity.
At 3:11 PM ,

Who says that they are all going for a college scholarship? Maybe they want to be really good high school players, or want the opportunity to play Div II or III. Just because they pursue basketball doesn't mean that they are neglecting their grades or all thinking they can be Div I or NBA stars. There are plenty of Div II and Div III schools looking for players. I say go for it and let the schools decide. Not some anonymous blogger.

I agree I do see the Milford sophomores/sometimes philbrick/Amherst freshmen working very hard and I believe the rivals are too, and even if these kids don't all get scholarships or even play in college they will be able to say that they made the most of their potential.

I was impressed by Milford, they should be 2-0 right now, but they didn't look 'up" for the game against North. I think they have the potential to get 14+ class I wins next year.
Souhegan played alright against Hollis (definantly a better team) but I didn't see them play the game before. I agree with an above comment if they are currently missing players, I could see them getting 10-12 wins.

Bedford at BST was not very impressive. A couple of the kids on the team were not very skilled and played more like rec players and Green threw up way too much junk. Very little good team play. Disappointing. They can't count on Green for 30 points a game consistantly.

if you really want to predict the class i winner: name a team with 3 players who would start or be 6th man on any other team and you have your winner. finding one is easy, finding two is not too hard, finding a third player is much more difficult. last year the winner had mulvey, tsougranis and abrahms. they would start or be first in for an other class i team. take milford. do mitchell, holder and o'loughlin fit that category? does souhegan or hanover? pelham has spirou, lebanon has woodward, hanover has carney, mv has cressy, bow has poitras and hill, bb has penney and maybe feehan, bedford has green, marinelli and weber does that count? portsmouth, oyster river, laconia, kennett, kearsarge, john stark, who do they have?
At 10:01 AM ,
Anonymous said...
sorry, forgot pembroke and benson and vaquez?
At 11:27 AM ,
Anonymous said...
Pelham has Spiro and Lombard. Lombard is a much improved player. Not sure who their third would be. Milford has a legitimate three with Mitchell, O'Laughlin, and Holder. The Bedford three would actually be Green, Marinelli, and Maher. Maher is a better player than Weber, although Weber is pretty good too. Other than this issue of team depth, another key issue will be quality of coaching. Not all teams are created equal with respect to coaching.
At 11:53 AM ,

Agree. Doesn't edge there go to Alosa?
At 1:42 PM ,
Anonymous said...
yes, Alosa is probably the best coach in Class I. He gets the most out of his talent. Soucy at H-B is also a very good Class I coach but doesn't have the horses this year. Kressy seems like he does a pretty good job at Pelham.
At 5:48 PM ,

Alosa, and Kress were both loaded this year. How about the coaches without kids on this list. Hanover is a perenial contender, Lebanon is always good, CoeBrown, John Stark.
At 6:27 PM ,

Marinelli and Webber? The Big 3?
seriously
Though I like the idea of the 3 that would start for anyone else to contend.
MV only has one player
Hanover only has one player
Bow has 2
Lebanon?
Laconia?
Pembroke has 2
Milford has a legit 3
Pelham has 2
Hollis 1
Monad?
OR has 1
Souhegan 1?

the BST Top Scoring listing is for BST South Div. BST Central Div started playing a week later and I don't see any players of those schools included in the list. It might be hard to compare total points of individuals as South Div has played 2 games and Central Div have played only 1.

3 out of the 5 players on this list are in BST south division
Williams
Philrick
Beaulieu
I haven't seen Williams but Philbrick seems average and Beaulieu has not really impressed me(1.0 ppg from Bealieu, 7.0 from Philbrick)
I know Gilligan gets hated a lot on this website, but how can you argue with the numbers 22 ppg. I honestly do not see how a freshman can post those numbers, and not be considered elite. Souhegan is also 2-0 at the top of BST south, while Milford and Alvrine are in the middle of the pack (both 1-1).

"Souhegan is also 2-0 at the top of BST south, while Milford and Alvrine are in the middle of the pack (both 1-1)."
Big F-in deal. It's only summer league. Some kids show up and some don't. Coaching is sporadic and the play is fairly inconsistent. Last time I checked NHIAA didn't recognize summer leagues or fall leagues in their records.
Don't get a cream dream over Souhegan's 2-0 start, cuz it's only

Being from Milford and a Milford parent I think even talking championships when you have never even stepped onto the floor at UNH shows how little knowledge we have about winning in February/March. This season may be a little different than seasons past because of such a turnover in graduating seniors and the strength of the Junior group across the state but it is very difficult to walk into Durham for the first time and truly perform at your best. Class I is always a little strange when it comes to playoffs so if your from Milford the last thing you should be doing is predicting championships.
At 7:52 PM ,
Anonymous said...
I doubt your a milford parent because if you were then you would understand there are six kids on that team that play high level basketball with their aau teams. They play kids from other states such as mass, conn,ri,ny,nj and so on and the last thing that will scare them is being in a class I championship game in nh they no how to win a championship game aau or state.
At 8:09 PM ,

OK son I will sign my name if you sign yours... deal?
Here is the difference, thousands of poeple watching, it being what could be your last game, more on the line. Playing at UNH is much more intense than playing at the Jamfest or Albany or any other big AAU tourney. Last year the speach I had with my son was about getting a chance to play at UNH to try to get comfortable playing in that gym, with that crowd with so many and so much on the line. I hope that Milford can go there and play at the highest level but predicting it before the season even begins is just silly. We sound absolutley stupid when we predict championships before we even win a game.

I totally disagree the intensity and level you play with at big aau tourneys is much higher and you have all your peers watching you and you want to succeed and not let them down. all these kids when the ball is thrown up in the air still play basketball because they have been through more then enough to deal with any type of competition. these are not kids that don't know how to play or handle pressure they have been doing it for most of their lives. And by the way your talking about the same group of kids that won with a packed gym and screaming parents back in middle school been there done that.
At 4:10 AM ,
Anonymous said...
I will give you that they play at a high level and played on a descent size stage at Nashua Catholic in Middle school but I really do not think that compares to UNH.
They still have some holes in thier game and to talk titles before getting to the tourney is pushing it.
Does the team have a chance sure just like probably 8 other class I schools.

3:25 - I've been on ALL the AAU "stages" for years. I will allow that the caliber of competition is better at many NATIONAL and the highest caliber regional events. But, there is nothing that compares with the atmosphere, hype, and difficulty of preparing for a high school state championship. AAU tourneys don't come close to the overall experience of competing in a HS basketball championship which ends with your next loss if you're not careful. AAU tourneys on the other hand have consolation games and another tourney next week.
Ask any ex-player who won a Championship with both a scholastic and a club team at the high school level and you will find that many barely recall their AAU championships.
Even dragging a middle school game into the conversation tells me you've got a LOT to learn. It's not even close.
Concerning your statement that these are kids and they've been through more than enough to deal with any type of competition....I will say, these are kids, they have rarely been through anything that demands that THEY deal with difficulty. This is especially true in NH where far too many parents prod, push, prompt, coach, and overly interefere with their child's development at all levels. Toughness is not the word that comes to mind when I consider the character and qualities of most players with which I have become acquainted over the years.

The last thing on anybodys mind that play at the highest level of aau is how will I do in nh. Let's be honest kids that are looking to future their career in basketball are not worried about a nh playoff game if that was the case the jayhawks would play the states however its a waste of time for them because they have common sense and realize whether they win or lose a game in nh will not make or break their career however a huge aau tourney would have a much bigger impact on them. What would you choose nh class I championship or National AAU championship????

So what happened in Pembroke last year? Most poeple thought that Milford had more talent and yet they were unable to pull off the win? Can you be possitive that the same thing will not occur again this year?

From an outsider viewpoint it appears the top 4 teams will be Pelham, milford, pembroke and lebanon. milford and pelham most talented, pembroke and lebanon similar teams to last year - most of the rest of class i rebuilding. is there any other team(s) that could contend with those 4?

It was the jasmine show and he did not get the rest of team involved enough. and murray played a slow down offense with high flying aau guys that also killed them.

Not even close.
Playing for a Class L, I, M or S championship is heads and heals over playing for an AAU Tournament championship. How many people are at an AAU Championship? Parents, relatives and a few bystanders? So, that total is about 50 to 100?? Now, do the math on a packed UNH, SNHU or PSU. 1000 to 2000 people in the stands. Little bit different than that AAU Championship game, correct?
Anybody who thinks playing in an AAU Championship is more intense than a State HS Championship game:
1) Doesn't get it.
2) Never played or attended a State Championship game.
3) Needs to watch some more b-ball.
Are we clear on this now??
At 5:23 PM ,
Anonymous said...
Ok I tried to explain it in simpleton format let me try again.
1. if you really believe a NH highschool class I championship is more intense in any way more then a national aau championship game then your just retarded and would rather watch a six grade girls championship rather than a lakers celtics seventh game.
2. its definate that you have never played a high level sport in your life and don't realize the kids know that playing high level aau basketball don't get their panties in a bunch over class i basketball no matter what game it is.
3. should stop posting all together.
Are you clear on this now???

Have you heard anything about Souhegan? Through these blogs I have seen a couple of posts about them, and I am not familiar with any of their players or coaches other then Gilligan. Am I missing something, are they going to be contenders? Just wondering.

Souhegan & Milford players are the best in the state. They should be in Class L. They would just dominate over Trinity, Manchester, Exter, Nashua North & South, and any other Class L contender. Gilligan would probably score 50 points a game and Philbrick at least 30 a game.

5:23 - I wrote the 7:23 post earlier for reference. I get where you're coming from entirely. But from a practical perspective:
1) A NH team might enter a national championship tourney but playing in the pools and consolation bracket simply does not equate to playing deeply into the championship bracket, let alone the championship game.
2) Those teams that do win their way through the championship bracket do so in front of empty gyms. Even at the Junior division level, while there are often a couple dozen or more college coaches and scouts watching the game, the atmosphere is largely a silent one. Other than a handful of parents occassionally giving a shout-out, the game is essentially a highly intense scrimmage. I'll agree that the caliber of competition is higher at the Junior and 16U divisions, but there is zero excitement or ceremony surrounding the game and contributing to the overall game condition.
3) If you really believe that the players take any championship as lightly as you suggest, you haven't acquainted yourself closely enough to players in these circumstances.
This overall environment of a HS championship simply does not exist in any way at a national tourney. The players may feel the same pressure to perform, but the conditions leading up to and continuing through the conduct of the game are simply not the same.

Why on this website are Milford, Amherst, and Souhegan always bragging about how good they are..... Have they played against Trinity or Salem or Manchester or Nashua?? Secondly, winning in the summer league is no big deal. Alot of the kids don't show up and alot don't take it seriously. Keep bragging that you are going to beat these teams by 50 - Good luck and keep dreaming....

The one thing to keep in mind, this is a blog - people hide behind these type of sites - I would seriously doubt the individuals that are supposedly making these statements truly are - i know one individual was told to not comment at all but his name comes up quite often - i'm sure this individual will let his game do his talking.

I think milford last year did beat a few of these teams and came with in a few points at the end of games to beat the other ones not bad for a team of sophs and one senior but if your talking about this year with all five sophs now playing as juniors against all those teams you just named off that lost all their seniors I dont see how you think they are going to lose to any of those teams? the toughest team will most likely be pelham and the milford split squad almost beat their full team last weekend.

Devin Gilligan for Souhegan is like Connor Green for Bedford, if he isn't scoring 25+ a game Souhegan will not win. Then again if he is throwing up shit shots like Green sometimes does they also will not win, seems like there is going to be a lot of pressure on a 14 year old kid next season.

Seems like this site is actually strating to talk about basketball.
Jeremy here's another question for you-
How would you compare the two Gilligan and Williams? Javon is the most athletic out of the two by a longshot, but Gilligan seems to have the better skill set, also Williams is about 5'10" and Gilligan stands about 6'3" and they both play the same position. Granted that they both are working hard, who do you think has more potential?
At 6:35 AM ,
Anonymous said...
4:48 Bedford will not have to depend on Connor Green to score 25+ a night in order to win. They have at least 3 other players (Marinelli, Maher, and Weber) who are good players and are capable of averaging 10-15 points per game. So Bedford is not a one man show. They will be in the thick of things this year in Class I, and will be a playoff contender.

Gilligan works hard on his game and has a toughness about him however when you see a kid that has matured physically faster then other kids the down side is the next few years when the other kids catch up and they are more athletic they pass that kid by ask josh morgan or dan desmaris ect. Being athletic goes a long way if you have the drive however not being athletic can only go so far.
At 7:37 AM ,

When I whatched Javon he sometimes rushed himself and didnt finish layups or made bad passes. This kid definitely has a lot of potential but not the best skillset. Also has an unsteady jumpshot.

Having seen both players in a lowell tournament I think the above comment is right on - i don't think either one has peaked in their physical maturation. williams quick as hell will get even stronger and it appears he works on his game religiously. gilligan had a tremendous growth spurt this past year, looks like he may grow a few more inches - he is lanky, should get much stronger and i hear he plays hoops amlmost year round. they both will be intersting to watch the next 3 years. there are a some other good players in this class - thorpe and some of the others mentioned above + a kid from portsmouth.
At 7:43 AM ,
Anonymous said...
Gilligan isn't unathletic, but Javon might be the most athletic kid in te state, I think they both can dunk. Looking at Javon he seems like his body has already matured, where as except for Gilligan's height he still looks like a kid while Javon looks like a man. That leads me to believe that Gilligan will get a couple more inches i could see him being a 6'5" shooting guard, and javon being a 5'10" point guard. Both kids have tremendous upside. Along with Mike Thorpe of Exeter these three players will be fun to watch over the next 3 seasons.
4:48- Is Devin realy only 14? that seems young to be going into his sophomore year.

gilligan is not a smooth super quick athlete he is just a strong kid who will be good but not athlectic enough to be one of the best come junior and senior year. and like I mentioned earlier there will a lot of kids just like him by senior year.
At 9:11 AM ,
Anonymous said...
be interesting to watch him and a few others to see how they improve the next three years. for example, if williams, gilligan, thorpe are averaging mid double figures per game now - do you think they will go backwards or just stay the same?

Its funny how Milford keeps mentioning split squads for their tournament. There is only one ball milford people. Milford does not have a good coach and too many people that want to score. I will give them one thing. If they are hot from three point line they will be tough to beat, but they are very soft and will most likely be one shot and done. Hope it is a good one and not a force coming from a kid who may not have touched the ball 2 or 3 times down the floor in a row.

I think it is just the opposite Milford doesnt have one guy that will score the ball consistantly every night. What they do have is three guys that could have great games on any night. I think it will come down to match ups and style of play. Mitchell will only have big nights when teams sit in zone and he shoots the ball well. Otherwise I think his assist will be his contribution. Mike O and Jamie will be there most consistant scorers, Rebounding and interior defense is the key to them playing well as the season approaches.
If you guys are worried that Mitchell is not going to pass dont he is a point guard and he understands that the times he has been noticed wether it be at a tourney or even at a showcase it has been from his court vision so that will be the focus this season.

You can tell by looking at Javon that he has matured much more than other kids in his grade. That brings up the question if he will grow anymore. Being around 6 feet he'll have to play point guard and that could be a problem if the comments above are true about him making bad passes.

Javon Williams will be an excellent player if he developed more of a jumpshot. He is incredibly quick and uses it to his advantage. He can steal/drive on almost anyone, and is an excellent passer when he wants to be. hit soem jumpers and you are golden Javon.

I saw Williams play at the bst and he had a decent game. he has some quick moves and scored about 8 points. however he made turnover after turnover and made silly passes. he also has bad control over the game. his team was up three with 20 seconds left and all they need to do is hold the ball and they win but instead Williams chucked up an NBA three and missed and gave the other team the ball back and a chance to tie

Once again, Mckenna wasn't there - he was at football camp - check the box score on bst22.com. not sure why you're in attack mode on gilligan, he wasn't involved in the play, the kid had a pretty respectable game for only going to be a sophomore - alot of junior/seniors in this league that are very good players that are held under double digits.

what i don't understand about this site is the comments from some people, they are very good at picking on kids that are good players, you see hojo, holder, jasmin, williams, fahmy, thorpe, spirou, gilligan, mitchell etc... being spoke about negatively at times. what did these kids do to the person making these comments, because these kids play decent basketball and probably put alot of time into the sport certain individuals have placed a target on these kids. i just don't get it - shame on these kids I guess for being passionate about basketball.

Gilligan has had two games under 20 points in bst ( alvrine 16, north 14) both games he didn't look very impresive but the kid is arguably the best freshman in the state and definantly one of the top 3(depending on opinion). He's 15 years old you can't expect him to have a perfect game every night.

I will some it up very easily. Players that are not very good get on here and because they cannot post that they are as good as the elite players they resort to trying to bash the ones that are having success. The fact is the ones we talk about most on here are the ones working their butts off. So when someone gets on here and talks bad about a player they are doing it out of jealousy cause if you really want to prove your better than someone call him out. Tell him your talking and set up a scrimmage. I think most of these kids would look forward to that kind of challenge.
